Tulip Senior Session | Heather’s College Graduation
OK, so you know the feeling when someone asks you if you wanna do something that you already LOVE doing?? (for me: photography)…and THEN they want to combine it with something else you REALLY LOVE???? WELL THIS SESSION WAS IT!!!!! A TULIP SENIOR SESSION!!!!!
Enter in Heather!! Kudos to this girl for being SO FLEXIBLE with planning her session!!! We had to change so many things in order to have this session, but she was so easy going and didn’t let all the changes get her down.
Goodness, where do I start?! Basically y’all, the final result was an EPIC TULIP FIELD SENIOR SESSION!!! And we’re aiming to do another one in July with SUNFLOWERS!!! Haha, but there were several things that happened leading up to her session that brought it there.
So, quick back story, I’ve known her for year – we grew up going to the same church. And I actually did her high school senior photos a few years ago. WELL, she hit me up and asked if I would be able to do some college grad senior photos for her – which was an immediate YES!!
When we started planning her session, Heather mentioned 2 things – she’d really like to do them in the spring at George Mason University (where she’s graduating from) AND she would really like to do some fun cap and gown photos. Well, everything with COVID-19 came around as we were planning. Not only did the campus have to shut down and put off her graduation, but her cap and gown also wouldn’t be able to come in time.
SOOOOOO, she asked to change to a TULIP FIELD, since she loves them and knows that I love them too!!!! Haha, the answer was YEEEEESSS!!! (If you follow my IG account, you know tulips are my absolute FAVORITE flower, and a tulip session is totally a DREAM)!! And, so she could have some fun cap and gown photos whenever they arrive, she decided to split her full session into two mini sessions! That way she could do some photos in the spring, with the tulips. And then we’ll do some cap and gown photos later in the summer with Burnside Farms SUNFLOWER FIELD!! Seriously, I’m so excited that she’s all about having flowers in her photos!!
ANYWHO!! As you can probably guess, her session was a DREAM!! We went to the tulip field at Burnside Farms in Nokesville, Virginia. Following the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, Burnside was only allowing a certain amount of people at a time into the field. Haha, it was actually amazing, because it meant that we had less people to contend with for photos! And it worked out perfectly! There were still other people there, but everyone was pretty spread out amongst the hundreds of rows of tulips.
(Note to other photographers: Burnside Farms DOES have set-aside hours for photographers (for a fee), after they’ve closed fields to the crowds.) But Heather and I decided to try our luck with the normal hours in hopes there would be less people due to the pandemic. It worked out for us, but in normal circumstances I’d recommend looking into their after hours. 😊
Anyway, this session was so much fun!!! And seriously, IF YOU WANNA DO A PHOTO SESH IN A TULIP FIELD…I 👏🏻 AM 👏🏻 DOWN 👏🏻
Heather, you were so much fun to hang out with and photograph! I can’t believe that I got to do both your senior photos and your college graduate photos too!! I’m so excited to see where the Lord leads you!!!! You are going AMAZING places!!
