SPRING SENIOR SESSION | E. C. LAWRENCE PARK | FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA
OKAY. THIS GIRL IS AMAZING!!!! Oh my goodness, how I LOVE doing a spring senior session!
While I love working on weddings, it is such a treat to work one-on-one with clients and to get to know who they are and to capture their beautiful personalities!! There’s just something so fun about it and the process of doing a session; I always feel like I get to make a new friend. And on top of that, I get to create some pretty epic photos for them!
Matea’s mom is good friends with a friend of my family, so when she contacted me about a senior session for her daughter, I was so excited!
We went to Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Fairfax, Virginia for her spring senior session. Actually, this was all happening *just* as COVID-19 was becoming a thing. That week, we had just gotten word about staying 6 feet apart, so we cautiously continued with her session but made sure to give each other plenty of space.
Side note–It’s funny because with the lens I use, I already have to stand at least 8-10 feet away. So that was easy to incorporate into our ‘social-distance’ session. The only struggle was that it just made our greeting of each other a little awkward, haha. I like to be warm and friendly and we joked about how it felt cold to wave from a distance. But we totally made it work!
Anyway, as we walked into the park, Matea told me about how she wanted to go for a spring/summery vibe and how she wanted to reflect that in all of her gorgeous outfit choices! She rocked it!! I absolutely loved her amazingly springy outfits…she even had a beautiful flower crown!! But I may be biased because she had some pink and blue outfits, which are also my brand colors, hehe!
Her session was GORGEOUS! This was my first time to E.C. Lawrence Park and they had a tulip magnolia tree (one of my favorite trees!) in front of one of the stone houses! It was so beautiful! After we did some photos in front of the Stone House, we went over to a more wooded area with a trail that also had a pretty footbridge over a small stream.
TWO really cool things came out of Matea’s session – The first one is that after the footbridge, Matea grabbed a small stool she brought to do some photos IN THE WATER!! Not everyone would be willing to dip their toes into 40 degree water, but she was totally game, and most of those photos have actually turned out to be some of my favorites!! Goodness, I LOVE it when my clients are down to try totally random or unconventional things…they so often turn out to be my client’s favorite part of their sessions!
The second thing is that during her session, we got to talking about social media and she told me about how she made the decision to do without it! This girl has noticed how self absorbed and obsessed it can make people and how even psychology shows how there can be a lot of negative affects from it. So, she just decided that she could live a lovely life without it! SERIOUSLY!! You hardly ever hear of people standing up for things like this and I 👏🏻 LOVED 👏🏻 IT!!!! While there are lots of fun things that about social media, I believe that we always need to talk about how to be careful with it. Anyway, her perspective and decision were refreshing!
Matea, you were such a joy to photograph!! You have such a beautiful, friendly, and joyful personality about you and I’m so excited for you and your future! I know that God will continue to lead you and open doors for you that you never thought possible. I can’t wait to see what He does for you! YOU ARE GOING TO DO GREAT THINGS, GIRL!!!
Cheering you on from the sidelines!!
